That completes our third year!<\/p>\n<p>As per usual, most of the handplays and poems come from Betty Jones&#8217; <em>A Child&#8217;s Seasonal Treasury<\/em> plus a song from Elisabeth Lebret&#8217;s <em>Pentatonic Songs<\/em>. The story will be a continuation of <em>The Root Children<\/em>. The craft will be birthday crowns (with lovely <a href=\"http:\/\/www.purlsoho.com\/purl\/products\/item\/7211-Wollfilz-1-mm-Wool-Felt-yardage\" target=\"_blank\">100% wool felt from purl soho<\/a> &#8211; yes, it costs $56\/yard.) Our opening songs and closing songs remain the same and can be found in earlier posts.<\/p>\n<p>The book discussion will be <em>The Happiness Project<\/em>. I wanted a shorter, lighter book, since in September we are going to tackle Jon Young&#8217;s <em>Coyote&#8217;s Guide to Connecting with Nature<\/em>. On our pending bookshelf:\u00c2\u00a0 soule mama&#8217;s <em>Handmade Home<\/em>, <em>Boys Alive!<\/em>, and another parenting book that-I-will-post-the-name-of-when-I-remember.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seashell Song<\/strong> by Betty Jones<br \/>\nCan you hear the sea&#8217;s song in this little shell? <em>(Cup hands and place in lap.)<\/em><br \/>\nHold it up to your ear and listen, listen well. <em>(Put cupped hands to ear; listen.)<\/em><br \/>\nShish-shoo-ooh.<br \/>\nThe seashell&#8217;s song is from the silvery sea, <em>(Lower cupped hands, sway them side to side.)<\/em><br \/>\nWhere the waves roll in, wild and free. <em>(Make rolling wave motion with hands, moving in, then out.)<\/em><br \/>\nShish-shoo-ooh!<br \/>\nThere upon the sand, the lovely seashell lies, <em>(Cup hands and place in lap.)<\/em><br \/>\nUntil a little child finds this seaside prize. <em>(Cup hands to heart.)<\/em><br \/>\nShish-shoo-ooh!<br \/>\nSo guard this shell, its life-long song, <em>(Cross hands at heart.)<\/em><br \/>\nAnd remember the home where it belongs<br \/>\nShish-shoo-ooh! <em>(Cup hands around mouth and voice loudly.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fairy Ring<\/strong><br \/>\nRound about, round about in a fairy ring, <em>(sashaying around circle)<\/em><br \/>\nThus we dance, thus we dance, and thus we sing! <em>(go to center)<\/em><br \/>\nTrip and go, to and fro, over the grass we go <em>(sashaying around circle)<\/em><br \/>\nAll about in and out, for our Flower Queen\/King. <em>(go to center)<\/em><br \/>\n<object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/S5jHRyzyWDg?hl=en&amp;fs=1\" \/><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><\/object><br \/>\n<strong>Numbers <\/strong><br \/>\nIn my head count windows seven,<br \/>\n1,2,3,4,5,6,7.<br \/>\nPoint each way, that makes six,<br \/>\n1,2,3,4,5,6.<br \/>\nSee my fingers five<br \/>\n1,2,3,4,5.<br \/>\nLimbs I have four,<br \/>\n1,2,3,4.<br \/>\nHead, heart, hands, they are three,<br \/>\n1,2,3.<br \/>\nI, you, are two,<br \/>\n1,2.<br \/>\nOne,<br \/>\nDone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My Horses<\/strong><br \/>\nMy white horses like to step<br \/>\nPeaceful and slow,<br \/>\nOver mountains, through valleys,<br \/>\nSo upright they go.<\/p>\n<p>My brown horses merrily<br \/>\nTrot in the sun,<br \/>\nWith their silver hoofs beating<br \/>\nThe ground as they run.<\/p>\n<p>My black horses gallop<br \/>\nWith courage around,<br \/>\nAnd they throw up their heads<br \/>\nAs they hammer the ground.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Children enact horse movements described, moving in one directon around circle. Repeat in opposite direction.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>At the Beach<\/strong> by Betty Jones<br \/>\nBuild a sand castle to the sky, <em>Pat air; move hands upward.<\/em><br \/>\nMake a moat so when the waves roll by <em>Make a big circle with arms in front of body.<\/em><br \/>\nThe castle will stand with its sandy wall <em>Hold arms upright with fingertips touching.<\/em><br \/>\n&#8216;Til high tide comes and then it will fall. <em>Fingers flutter at rooftop, and slowly flutter downward to lap.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Children&#8217;s Prayer<\/strong> Music by Elisabeth Lebret<br \/>\nThe golden sun, so great and bright<br \/>\nWarms the world with all its might.<\/p>\n<p>It makes the dark earth green and fair<br \/>\nAnd tends each thing with ceaseless care.<\/p>\n<p>It shines on blossom, stone, and tree<br \/>\nOn bird and beast, on you and me!<\/p>\n<p>Oh, may each deed throughout the day,<br \/>\nMay ev&#8217;rything we do and say<\/p>\n<p>Be bright and strong and true,<br \/>\nOh!
