In Korean the title is <strong>Gwoemul<\/strong> and in English it is called <strong>The Host<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/imdb.com\/title\/tt0468492\/\" target=\"_blank\">imdb 7.3\/10.0<\/a>). Despite its unimpressive Imdb rating, this movie is now considered the all-time number one box office hit in Korea (do I sound like I should be writing blurbs or what?) I liked it a lot. Making me laugh out loud wins you points.<\/p>\n<p>The movie takes place in contemporary Korea and revolves around government misinformation, a beastly reptile creature created by improperly disposed formaldyhyde, and the desperately heroic attempts by a family to find a little girl. It is a funny horror movie the same way <strong>Dr Strangelove and How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Atomic Bomb <\/strong>is a funny horror movie. If you are interested in checking out contemporary Korean flicks, check out this alphabetic <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_Korean_language_films\" target=\"_blank\">Korean movie list<\/a> at wikipedia.<\/p>\n<p>If you can occasionally stomach extreme violence or extreme melodrama, I would recommend:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Old Boy<\/strong> (violent)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Il Mare <\/strong>(melo)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joint Security Area <\/strong>(violent)<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Lake House <\/strong>(violent and melo)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Memories of a Murder <\/strong>(quiet with outbursts)<\/p>\n<p><strong>My Sassy Girl <\/strong>(melo)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Samaritan Girl <\/strong>(melo and violent)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall,&#8230; and Spring Again <\/strong>(quiet with outbursts)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance <\/strong>(violent and melo)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War <\/strong>(melo and violent)<\/p>\n<p>The next ones we are going to watch:<strong> Silmido, The King and Clown, Save the Green Planet!, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0457007\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crying Fist<\/a><\/strong>, and<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0428870\/\" target=\"_blank\">A Moment to Remember<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We watched an excellent Korean movie last weekend.
