wangechi mutu

I had to tear and save this article about Wangechi Mutu from the June 2006 Vogue after reading this little excerpt about what inspires her:”She remembers watching a 1992 demonstration in Nairobi during which a group of mothers protesting the imprisonment of their sons on political charges took off their clothes, in an ancestral tribal ritual, to shame the authorities.”

I have a feeling I’ve seen her work in NYC before – something very different, but with the same energy, perhaps it was collages?
