why i'm applying for another job

Public school teachers are the ditch diggers of the academic world. There is little respect and yet we are expected to pay special attention to every individual student and do lots of stuff for free. The work is repetitive and exhausting. I teach the same lesson five times a day. Often, my brain just wants to scream shrilly from the monotony of it. No person can be expected to teach even the most basic concepts to 150 students a day. Not unless you have very thick skin or have some way of mentally retreating and operating on automatic.

I enjoy teaching one child or person at a time. Sometimes, I enjoy teaching groups of fifteen.

I like sharing information – but only to people who want it. I don’t like convincing people (over and over again) that I am worth listening to.

I think maybe I need to teach at the college level…
